n Rusty and Lori Yarrick opened Rusty's Pizza & Subs. The business offers East Coast pizza and deli submarine sandwiches and free delivery within a 15-minute radius. It's located at 2749 W. Certification
n Mike Cummings and Cory Beuerle of Century 21 McCoy Real Estate have earned Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource Certification from the National Association of Realtors. Cummings works out of the Traverse City office, while Beuerle works from the Suttons Bay location. In addition, Beuerle, Connie Rountree and Peter Read, both of the Traverse City office, were certified as Green agents by the NAR.
n The U.S. Green Building Council awarded an LEED "Gold" certification to a new home at 6524 Marsh Road in Kingsley, the first LEED certified home in Grand Traverse County. It was designed by Eric Hughes of Image Design LLC of Grand Rapids and contructed by Joel Diotte of Frontier Construction of Maple City.

Recognition
n Grady Jordan of Bay View Insurance Agency in Traverse City was named to Auto-Owners Insurance Co.'s 2009 President's Club for placing in the company's top 25 life insurance producers in its 26-state service area. It's the sixth time Jordan has received the award.
n The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG) received two bronze Telly Awards for two of its production. It's "Job Show for Teens" featured employment information for young workers while "Michigan's Energy Future Today" highlighted advances in solar energy.
Upgrades
n Cherry Capital Cadillac Subaru installed new eco-friendly technology at the dealership's body shop in Traverse City. Owner Otto Belovich said its new paint system is produced by Garmat USA of Englewood, Colo. and incoroprates the PPG Waterborne Paint System. It uses a specialized extraction media that captures 99 percent of hazardous particulate, and reduces gas and electric use that saves about 50 percent of the operational cost from its previous system.
Appointments
n State Rep. Dan Scripps, D-Leland, was appointed chairman of the House Banking and Financial Services Committee. He served as vice-chairman of the committee and replaces Rep. Andy Coulouris, D-Saginaw.
New ownership
n Virtual Rocks of Northport has been sold by brothers Wally and Mark Norton to Noron Composite Technologies of Manistee. Ron Melchert at Noron is the new sales contact for the lightweight, replica rocks and can be contacted at (231) 723-9277.
Expansion
n PNC Capital Markets expanded its Public Finance Group with a new office in Grand Rapids to provide investment banking services for state and local governments, non-profit health care and higher education institutions. Anton Colon, a director for PNC Capital Markets since September, will head up the office.
