Chamber to honor certificates

CHARLEVOIX -- Gift certificates distributed through the Charlevoix Area Chamber of Commerce will be honored by the chamber following the closure of an Ohio company that operated the program.

Chamber officials said certificates issued through CertifiChecks in Dayton, Ohio, can be redeemed through the Charlevoix chamber. CertifiChecks closed this month and is in the process of filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, chamber officials said.

"We are choosing to honor these CertifiChecks to continue to promote the original intent of the program -- to shop local," said Erin Bemis, the chamber's executive director. More information on the reimbursement is available by contacting the chamber office at (231) 547-2101.

Almost two dozen chambers in Michigan were impacted by the company's closure, including business organizations in Cadillac, Gaylord and Petoskey. The Gaylord/Otsego County chamber also announced last week that it would honor local certificates still in circulation.
