CHEBOYGAN -- Authorities charged a Jackson man with sexually assaulting a Cheboygan teen.
Aaron Michael Avery, 31, is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of solicitation of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes. Michigan State Police arrested Avery in his Jackson apartment Thursday.
State police were investigating Avery for allegedly distributing a large volume of child pornography over the Internet when they discovered he allegedly met a Cheboygan girl, 15, over the Internet, according to a police statement.
Avery visited the girl in Cheboygan in late May, police said. He allegedly picked her up at Cheboygan High School and later had sexual contact with her off a two-track trail in Cheboygan County, investigators believe.
Avery was taken to the Cheboygan County Jail and arraigned Friday in 87th District Court. A preliminary examination is set for July 9. Troopers continue to investigate the child porn complaint.
