The public, plus friends and supporters of the Community Living Programs, had the opportunity to attend a free screening of "I Am Sam" recently at the State Theatre. It also was a chance for the public to learn more about the programs.
The Grand Traverse Area Community Living Management Corp. is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1975 and dedicated to providing quality supportive housing and essential support services for adults with disabilities. It strives to maximize opportunities for its participants to enjoy active lives in the community and to help each person to live as independently as possible in the community. The CLMC currently provides services to 70 individuals who represent about 100 families.
Mary Jean Brick, of Traverse City, wrote on behalf of the CLMC to thank Michael Moore for making the screening possible and all the staff at the State Theatre for being so cordial and helpful.
A chair was dedicated to Mary Jean's sister, the late Hermine M. Walters, and Mary Jean said it was especially meaningful to all of Hermine's former friends at the Community Living Center.
"Everyone who attended found it a very informative opportunity to learn about the CLC Programs," Mary Jean wrote. "Thanks again to Michael Moore."

The Maison family, of Traverse City, wrote to thank the entire staff at the Cherry Tree Inn & Suites in Traverse City for their warm hospitality during the family's extended stay.
The Maisons sold their home in December and were faced with numerous closing delays on their next house. In their search for a temporary, affordable place to stay, they found the Cherry Tree Inn. With their belongings in storage and their children sad about leaving a house they loved, the Maisons moved into the inn.
The Maison's estimated three- to four-week stay ended up lasting almost three months, but what could have been a stressful stay turned into a "delightful adventure" because of the Inn's exceptional staff.
"The entire staff overwhelmed us with their kindness. Everyone from the front desk to maintenance and housekeeping always went the extra mile to make our family feel welcome and comfortable," Joe, Mary, Calvin, Austin, Bradin and Quintin Maison wrote. "One specific example was when we had to move from one room to another on the morning of Christmas Eve due to a prior reservation. Jonathan, the front desk manager, moved us into a beautiful suite and surprised us with a fully decorated Christmas tree ... we were expecting it to be our first Christmas without a tree. We feel truly honored to have called the Cherry Tree Inn 'home.'"
