GRAYLING -- Grayling's city manager is on paid administrative leave as he fights criminal charges.
David Thayer, city manager since 2006, is charged with 24 misdemeanor counts of violating the Social Security Number Privacy Act. He revealed more than 20 individuals' Social Security numbers without their permission, authorities contend.
Thayer faces up to 93 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine, if convicted.
Grayling City Council members suspended Thayer this week. Thayer is paid $73,000 annually, plus benefits.
