TRAVERSE CITY-- Mason County Central placed four runners in the top nine Saturday to win the Traverse City Central Invitational.
Jake Hernandez led Mason County Central, finishing first overall in 16:50. Jared Lauber took second (16:54), Dan Deller fourth (17:16), Austin LaVigne ninth (18:20) and Chris Conrad 14th (18:35).
Mason County Central finished with 30 points. Big Rapids placed second (48) and Traverse City Central third (82).
Big Rapids was paced by Clark Ruiz, who was third (17:03). Teammates Matt Weis and Carl Bouman came in sixth and eighth, respectively (17:45 and 18:12). Ruiz set a meet ninth-grade record.
Alan Jacobson topped Traverse City Central, finishing 11th (18:29). Johnny Ackley took 16th (18:35), John Miller 17th (18:37), Joe Friedli 18th (18:38.1) and Eric Ooley 25th (18:52) for the Trojans.
Petoskey's Nate Ismond was fifth overall (17:34) and Grand Traverse Academy's Alex Houston ninth (18:15).
Kingsley was seventh. The Stags were led by Ben Simpson, who was 12th (18:29). Connor Goggin came in 14th (18:34).
Petoskey claimed the girls race with 84 points. Big Rapids took second (90) and Traverse City Central third (91).
For Petoskey, Alexandra Taylor was fifth (21:12), Amy Bieganowski 13th (21:39), Kathy Rajewski 16th (22:04), Catie Gammon 23rd (22:21) and Morgan Jons 31st (22:40).
Kingsley's Kristin Volkening was the overall winner in 20:50. She was followed by Rachel Joseph and Chennah Heroor of Big Rapids (20:53 and 21:00.1). Mandy Danz of St. Francis came in fourth (21:00.5). Teammate Sarah Arthur was seventh (21:25).
Central was led by Aimee Marsh. She was 14th (21:49), Kailey Mattarella 15th (21:58) and Adrienne Bruder 18th (22:05).
Grand Traverse Academy put three runners in the top 10 -- Sophie Schuetze was sixth (21:12), Stephanie Horning ninth (21:30) and Rowan Estinck 10th (21:32).
Kingsley's Samantha Krause was 11th (21:33) and Traverse City Christian's Emily Ritsma 12th (21:38).
In the middle school meet, Traverse City East won the girls race with 15 points. East took the top five spots -- Lauren Marsh (12:44), Jordan Mattarella (12:47), Erin Lipp (12:51), Ellie Taylor (13:29) and Kendall Minor (13:42). Marsh set a meet eighth-grade record, Mattarella seventh-grade mark.
Kingsley won the boys meet with 30 points. Justine Prange was the overall winner (11:55). Dylan Zenner (12:46) took third, Jacob Keena fifth (12:56), Justin Ginzel eighth (13:05) and Richard Durecki 13th (13:48) for the Stags.
