TC Central X-C hands out awards

TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Central recognized Drew Dancer as its Player of the Year in boys cross country at a team banquet Wednesday.

Chris Visser won the Will to Win Award, Mason Hengartner took the Spirit Award, Nicholas Tarsa claimed the Rookie of the Year and James Padden the Chris Vranich Memorial Iron Man Award.

Named most outstanding in their respective classes were Johnny Ackley (9th grade), Caleb Thompson (10th grade), Dancer (11th grade) and Padden (12th grade).

Most improved awards went to Cam Marshall (9th grade), Dylan Flesher and Joe Friedli (10th grade), Alex Berman (11th grade) and John Miller (12th grade).

Padden, Visser and Alan Jacobson were team captains.

Cross Country

Central runner heads to Northwestern

When Katie Perkins was narrowing down her college search, it really came down to one school. Luckily, it's the same school she will be attending next fall. Perkins, a track and cross country standout at TC Central, will run at Northwestern.

Top 10: Two schools add to north's success

Trojan girls head to finals

Traverse City Central is heading back to the state finals. The defending Division 1 state champion girls will be at Michigan International Speedway to defend their title after finishing third at Saturdays regional at Carson City-Crystal.

Huskies take regional titles

Central, Otwell nail down Big North

It was a sweep for Traverse City Central in the Big North Conference on Tuesday. The Trojan girls won their third league meet, earned the conference title and had the top overall runner in the Big North, Julia Otwell, who led a dominating finish for Trojans.

XC Roundup: Titans, Trojans win jamboree

It was Traverse City's day. Traverse City West, led by Sebby Kucera, moved into a tie for first in the Big North Conference boys cross country race by winning the second jamboree of the fall Tuesday. Traverse City Central, without two of its top runners, had the depth to claim its second consecutive girls race. (Plus, Benzie sweeps league meet at Frankfort.)

Gaylord calculates cross country win

Jeff Kalember did the math and figured his Gaylord Blue Devils had finished second to Traverse City West in the first Big North Conference boys cross country meet of the season Tuesday. But when the final results were tabulated, it was Gaylord on top.
