Traverse City Record-Eagle

East Bay

Clarification: 02/06/2009

To clarify a story in Wednesday's Record-Eagle, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality officials said it will take several years before groundwater under the Pine Grove subdivision meets safe drinking water criteria under a proposed cleanup plan. The plan calls for Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District to create a barrier of underground pollution-eating bacteria south of Parsons Road that will prevent contaminants from leaving the Career Tech Center, a former industrial site. TBA-ISD hopes the barrier will be effective in 18 months, but it could take eight to 12 years for contamination under Pine Grove to flush into East Bay.
