The following are Rotary Club of Traverse City Students of the Month.
-- John Galloup, a senior at Traverse City Christian School, is the son of Steve and Vicki Galloup. He has participated in community service and mission projects, was employed as a life guard, sang in the choir and attends church. His favorite class is theology. He has played high school sports, including basketball and soccer. John plans to join the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation.
-- Amanda Ramirez, a senior at St. Francis High School, is the daughter of Ramon and Betsy Ramirez. She has served as a member of National Honor Society, president of Stewards of Creation, as a middle school mentor, and as a Kairos retreat leader. She has participated in high school musicals, choir and band. Amanda enjoys photography and was awarded a Ludka Scholarship. She has been accepted to the Honors College at Grand Valley State University, and hopes to become a veterinarian.
-- Spencer Schmerheim, a senior at St. Francis High School, is the son of Randy and Kim Schmerheim. A co-founding member of Stewards of Creation, he has also served as a member of National Technical Honor Society. Spencer has participated in bowling and band, and made a service trip to Paradise, Mich., with Stewards of Creation. His favorite class is construction trades at the Career-Tech Center, and he also works at his father's business, Randy's Olde Towne Service. After graduation Spencer plans to attend Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. He hopes to become a music producer and recording artist.
-- Emily Schibelhut, a senior at Traverse City West High School, is the daughter of Roger and Debbie Schibelhut. She has served as governor of the Student Council and a member of National Honor Society. Emily has participated on the Grand Vision Council, as a "How to Say No" instructor, and as a crew member for "A Tale of Two Cities." Her favorite class is psychology. Emily plans to attend Grand Valley State University as an undergrad, then Michigan State University to become a social worker.
-- Steven White, a senior at Traverse City West High School, is the son of Kim White. He has served as a freshman mentor, and member of National Honor Society, Key Club and Spanish Club. He has participated in wind ensemble, jazz band, orchestra, marching band, pit orchestra at Old Town Playhouse, and has mentored West Middle School percussionists. He is also a member of the Sun Radius Steel Pan Band and was invited to be a member of the MSBOA Michigan All-State Band. He plans to study music education in college, at either Michigan State University or the University of Michigan.
