Kiwanis Students of the Month: 01/26/2010


The following have been named Students of the Month by the Kiwanis Club of Traverse City.

-- Hattie Christie, a senior at Traverse City Christian High School, is the daughter of Ron and Linda Christie. She has served as class treasurer and student council representative. A volunteer serving community meals, Hattie has participated in varsity skiing for four years and is in the school play this year. She enjoys skiing and road biking. She plans to pursue a career in occupational therapy, with an emphasis in geriatrics.

-- Leah Beemer, a senior at Traverse City Christian High School, is the daughter of Dave and Cathy Beemer. She has served as class secretary, as a Junior Ambassador for the National Cherry Festival, and as a Special Olympics volunteer. A member of the Northstar Girls Soccer Club, she has participated in high school soccer, Vacation Bible School, Worship Team, volleyball, basketball, track and choir. Leah has achieved honor roll every year since seventh grade. She enjoys skiing, boating, snowmobiling and soccer. Leah plans to attend Grand Valley State University and studying sonography.

-- Allison Ostrander, a senior at Kingsley High School, is the daughter of Steven and Dawn Ostrander. She has served as a mentor, a Sunday school teacher and volunteer. She has participated in National Honor Society and cheerleading. Allison has received awards for remaining on the honor roll, two citizenship awards and Student of the Month honors. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking her dog and watching sports. She plans to earn an associate's degree from Northwestern Michigan College, then go to the University Center to study social work.
