-- Michael Eatman, director of intercultural student programs at Spring Arbor University, recently enhanced his training and expertise in cultural diversity by becoming a certified diversity professional.
-- Amy E. Lawrence-Gollay, Shalene M. Glynn, Julie M. McAllister and Jennifer L. Hammond were recently inducted into the Alpha Rho Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Northwestern Michigan College. Lawrence-Gollay, majoring in business, is married to Chuck Gollay of Lake Ann. Glynn, from Central Lake, majoring in counseling, is the daughter of Wayne and Mary Loper of Central Lake and Terry Addis of East Jordan. McAllister, from Kalamazoo, is majoring in Liberal Arts/General Studies, and is the daughter of Clarence McAllister Jr. and Betty Olvitt of Traverse City. Hammond, from Bear Lake, is majoring in accounting.
-- Baker College of Cadillac's therapeutic massage certificate degree program has been granted certification by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork through October 2011.
-- Classic Instruments of Boyne City stepped in with a contribution of over $5,000 to save a very important program for Boyne City sixth graders and Camp Daggett. This year, the school could not afford to offer the children the camp-out experience and John McLeod of Classic Instruments set up an online auction of donated car parts to benefit the outing.
-- Northwestern Michigan College volunteers Bruce Byl and Susan Sheldon have been named winners of the 2009 Council for Resource Development's Campus Impact Award in the volunteer category. Both Byl and Sheldon serve on the board of the NMC Foundation. Byl, who is also an NMC alumnus (1979), is vice-chair. Sheldon also is an elected member of the NMC Board of Trustees.
