Students of the Month: 11/24/2009


The following have been named Students of the Month by the Traverse City Kiwanis Club.

-- Bob Taylor, a senior at Kingsley High School, is the son of Kerry and Diane Taylor. Bob has served as worship leader for Frontline Student Ministries at East Bay Calvary Church, and as event coordinator for Servants with a Testimony at church, as a Curriculum Council member, Sex Education Board member, and as a Teacher Academy Advisory Board student representative. He has participated in varsity football and varsity baseball, in which he was named All-District and Academic All-District. Bob has earned the Perfect Attendance and Citizenship awards; Student of the Year: Health, Civics/Economics, Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II; was named to the All-Year Honor Roll for three years; and was named a nominee for Teacher Academy Student of the Year. Bob is an active musician with guitar, mandolin and djembe. He plays basketball and Ultimate Frisbee, and enjoys theater and musical productions. Bob is also an active member of the FSM Youth Group at East Bay Calvary Church, and enjoyed serving as a Bible Camp group Leader/Mentor in the U.P. He planbs to attend Grand Valley State University, studying secondary education and mathematics to become a high school math teacher.

-- Josh Kurtz, a senior at Traverse City St. Francis Catholic High School, is the son of Joseph and Debra Kurtz. Josh has served as president of Students for Life and the National Honor Society, and as treasurer of the Student Council. He has particpated in varsity tennis, receiving honors as State Champion in Div. 4, 3 doubles; varsity bowling; school musicals; and the Jamaican mission trip. Josh has also earned an AP Scholar award, TBA-ISD Math, Science and Technology award; first place in the local Students for Life oratory contest; Gold Honor Roll; and a Scholar Athelete award. He enjoys playing ping-pong, singing, spending time with friends and family, tennis and swimming. Josh plans to attend the University of Michigan, and hopes to be accepted into the Honors Program.
