-- Northwestern Michigan College's Great Lakes Maritime Academy partnership with Ferris State University has been named the 2009 Outstanding Transfer Program by the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.

-- The following local students have received scholarships from Calvin College of Grand Rapids: Adam D. Card (Honors) and Shannon M. Leifker (Honors) of Cadillac; Cameron D. Ramer (Faculty Honors) of Lake City; Kyric C. Koning (Dean's) and Rachel J. Westmaas (Trustee) of McBain; Nathan E. Banks (Honors), Nathan S. Feenstra (Honors), Tyler E. Hanna (Dean's), and Arielle M. Kanitz (Mosaic), Alexander D. Sanderson (Honors), and Brian D. Benson (Honors) of Traverse City; Lauren J. Gall (Honors) of Gaylord; and Allen R. McCarty (Mosaic) of Harbor Springs.

-- Jennifer Matson, a Hope College (Holland, Mich.) freshman from Omena, was elected by fellow students in Lichty and Van Vleck Halls to represent them in the Student Congress. Matson, the daughter of Murray Matson of Williamsburg and Sally Matson of Traverse City, is a 2009 graduate of Traverse City Central High School.

-- The following local students graduated from Central Michigan University in Summer 2009: Julie Feldkamp of Boyne City; Robert George and Ruth Howell of Boyne Falls; Ronald Sober II and Jill Tabaczka of Charlevoix; Nicholas Blaskowski, John Burmeister and Malinda Woodgate of Cheboygan; Donald Killingbeck and Kerri Prediger of Indian River; Erica Fenn and Tinelle Zigila of Grayling; Suzanne Elbert of Levering; Evan Nowak, Melissa Paterson and Savanah Zednicek of Petoskey; Kathryn Benson, Robert Johnson, Andrew Lisabeth, Yaro Middaugh, Michael Rutledge, Eric Schugars, Kevin Skanulis and Melissa Somero of Traverse City; John Gantner of Kalkaska; Gavin Bissell of Northport; and Trevor Griswold of Gaylord.

-- Joelle J. Gilmet of Traverse City recently became a member of Sigma Alpha Lamba, National Leadership and Honors Organization at the University of Michigan.

-- Students and staff at Grand Traverse Academy recently swapped uniforms for jeans in exchange for donating two canned or boxed food items to the Father Fred Food Pantry. The drive, sponsored by the school's Student Ambassadors, a group of Upper Elementary students, gathered more than 2,500 food items.
