Elk Rapids coach ousted for swearing
After an Oct. 9 incident in which boys soccer coach Al Gredlein swore in the presence of players, the Elk Rapids school board voted 5-2 on Monday night to accept a letter of resignation that Gredlein tried to challenge.

Benzie boys, girls qualify for states
Benzie Central's top runner finished seventh. It's seventh was 24th. That kind of depth led the Huskies to a boys Division 3 regional championship and state finals berth, seven points ahead of Elk Rapids. Benzie also qualified on the girls side, putting seven runners in the top 25 of the 14-team race -- including individual champ Devyn Ramsey and runner-up Michael Carnegie -- to finish eight points behind regional champ Pine River.

Family-owned company runs Elk Rapids dam
A couple of Stockhausens charged to the rescue when it came time for Antrim County officials to take stock in the Elk Lake dam. The county turned over operation of the dam near downtown Elk Rapids this week to Elk Rapids Hydroelectric Power, a family-owned company operated by Bill Stockhausen and his son, Stock.
