Chris Grobbel starts work next week as Elmwood Township's zoning administrator/planning coordinator.
Grobbel, of Lake Leelanau, owns an environmental and land use consulting firm in Traverse City.
The new full-time position replaces those of a full-time planner and part-time zoning administrator. Township officials decided to make the change as a money-saving move after the zoning administrator retired last year.
Township Planner Bill Swanson leaves at the end of the month.
