Another 'Prairie Home' telecast added

Show will be rebroadcast Feb. 9 at State Theatre

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY -- A Feb. 4 broadcast of "A Prairie Home Companion" beamed live to Traverse City's State Theatre is sold out, so a Feb. 9 rebroadcast has been added.

The Feb. 4 show will be performed in front of a live audience at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, Minn., and beamed via satellite to theaters around the country. Because the local broadcast sold out, WIPR, the hosting radio station, scheduled a rebroadcast.

Tickets for the Feb. 9 rebroadcast, scheduled for 8 p.m., are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for students and children.

The performance includes sibling singers Jearlyn and Jevetta Steele, vocalist Heather Masse and the folk duo Robin and Linda Williams. The usual cast will also be performing -- actors Sue Scott and Tim Russell, sound-effects wizards Tom Keith and Fred Newman, and the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band led by keyboardist, composer and arranger Richard Dworsky, with Pat Donohue (guitar), Peter Johnson (percussion) and Gary Raynor (bass)

For more than 35 years, fans have tuned in to Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion." The show is performed in front of a live audience, usually on Saturdays. (The Thursday performance is special for the live transmission; there will be no show Feb. 6.) Each week, it's heard by more than 4 million listeners on more than 600 public radio stations.

"When the show started," Keillor said, "it was something funny to do with my friends, and then it became an achievement that I hoped would be successful, and now it's a good way of life."
