TRAVERSE CITY — Miao Xiaochun, professor of photography and digital media at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, will speak on Monday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m.
The program is being held in association with his exhibition, "The Real in the Virtual," now showing at the Dennos Museum Center on the Northwestern Michigan College campus.
Miao Xiaochun has been expanding the boundaries of photography into the realm of new media. A graduate of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing and the Kunsthochschule Kassel, Germany, his most recent work involves the development of paintings from the canon of Western art history into computer models.
His exhibition features digital video projections of his work including "Microcosm, The Last Judgment in Cyberspace, Restart and Disillusion" based on works by Hieronymus Bosch, Michelangelo and others.
Miao Xiaochun's presentation in Traverse City is one of an ongoing series of Global Opportunity programs being offered by NMC. He will be giving presentations to area high school and college classes from Nov. 12-14 at the Dennos Museum.
His visit is made possible in collaboration with the Confucius Institute at the University of Michigan, where he will speak following his programs here.
Regular museum admission rates of $6 adults, $4 for children and free to museum members apply for this event. The show runs through Feb. 10.
