Terry Wooten leads Stone Circle

Elk Rapids — Poet/Bard Terry Wooten folk performer Louan Lechler will lead weekly Stone Circle gatherings starting Saturday, June 19, and continuing through Labor Day weekend.

Family-friendly evenings of poetry, storytelling and music start at 9 p.m. Saturdays around a fire on Stone Circle Drive, 10 miles north of Elk Rapids off U.S. 31. Visitors are invited to perch on the boulders or bring a blanket or chair for seating.

Set sail aboard the Tall Ship Manitou

Traverse City — The Tall Ship Manitou will offer three excursions daily plus weekly special-themed cruises on select days throughout the summer.

Weekly sails are at noon, midday and evening. The cost is $35 for adults and $18 for children for the noon and afternoon sails, and $45/$26 for the evening sail, which includes a picnic meal. A cash bar also is available.

Moomer's Ice Cream Sails are offered during the 3 to 5 p.m. sail Mondays and Fridays, June 21 through Sept. 3. The cost is $40 for adults and $20 for children, which includes samples of five flavors of Moomer's Ice Cream.

Wine Tasting Cruises are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 22 through Sept. 2. Tuesday cruises feature Leelanau Cellars and Thursday's tastings are from Left Foot Charley. The cost is $60 per person.

Entertainment nights with Song of the Lakes will be offered on the 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. sails Wednesdays, July 7 through Aug. 25. Tickets are $60 for adults and $41 for children, which includes a picnic meal.

New for 2010 are Microbrew and Pizza Nights 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sundays, June 20 through Sept. 5. The $60 cost includes samples of local beer from Right Brain Brewery and pizza from Crusted Creations.

Artist-in-residence giving presentation

GLEN ARBOR — The third artist-in-residence at the Glen Arbor Art Association is Kerri VandenBerg, a watercolorist from Eugene, Ore.

VandenBerg grew up in Grand Rapids and visited Leelanau County in high school. She'll focus on familiar and unfamiliar places during her two-week stay. "I enjoy capturing colors and light during those times you wouldn't expect, such as under moonlight and late afternoons," she said.

Photo session fundraiser for AC Paw

ELK RAPIDS — DRE photography in Elk Rapids is holding a fundraiser today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise donations for AC Paw.

Bring a bag of cat or dog food (Science Diet preferred) and receive a free 15-minute photography session and a 5x7 portrait of your pet.
