Greeting cards give the gift of work
TRAVERSE CITY -- Paperworks Studio will offer four new holiday greeting card designs for 2009. Paperworks is a Goodwill program that provides work for 17 disabled and disadvantaged artisans, who create and sell high quality, handmade, recycled paper products.
Holiday designs for 2009 include "Oh Tannenbaum," Let It Snow," "Hippie Holiday" and "Art From the Heart."
The cards are available with a standard holiday greeting, customized sentiment or with a business logo. All cards are handmade from recycled materials. Paperworks also offers a full line of cards for personal or business use and special occasions. Each purchase provides the gift of purpose and employment.

Orchestra's fall concert is 'in style'
BENZONIA -- The Benzie Area Symphony Orchestra will give its fall concert today.
Titled "It's All About Style," the concert will weave a colorful tapestry of musical styles ranging from 18th century composer George Phillipp Telemann to the 20th century style of Richard Rodgers.

Petoskey offers Halloween activities
PETOSKEY -- Downtown Petoskey will offer Halloween activities for adults and children.
On Friday, ghosts and scary stories will be in the spotlight during walking tours for adults leaving Pennsylvania Park every 30 minutes from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tours are $5 per person. Reservations are suggested and walk-ins will be accepted if space is available. Reservations can be made at the Petoskey Downtown Offices, 216 Park Ave.
Children are invited to dress in their Halloween best for a Children's Parade and Downtown Trick-or-Treating. Children should meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Central Elementary School. A decorated wagon from Pond Hills Farm will lead the 10 a.m. parade down Howard Street to Mitchell Street to Pennsylvania Park, where children can spread out through downtown to trick or treat.
The Petoskey Library also will be treating tricksters from 10 a.m. to noon on the front steps of the Carnegie Building. Elementary school age children then are invited to a "Halloween Shivers Session" from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Building. There will be Halloween stories, songs, poems and a light snack.

Barrage brings high energy to the stage
HARBOR SPRINGS -- Barrage will open the Crooked Tree Arts Center's 2009-10 Performing Arts Series with its diverse fusion of cultures, musical styles and performance vitality.
The international members of Barrage includes six violinists/vocalists, a drummer, bass player and guitarist.
They perform an eclectic mix of music, song and dance and have been described as "Stomp meets Riverdance with violins."
Barrage will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Harbor Springs Performing Arts Center.
Tickets are $15 for Crooked Tree members, $20 for non-members and $5 for students.
Reserved seats are $40.

PETOSKEY -- Shoppers at the third annual Holiday Wine Market can sample more than 40 wines selected for the market.
The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Crooked Tree Arts Center, 461 E. Mitchell St. It is sponsored by the arts center and Esperance.
Tickets are $10 per person and all proceeds from ticket revenue go toward youth scholarships.
