New exhibit at Lake Street Studios

GLEN ARBOR -- Lake Street Studios will open its summer season with an exhibit of Leelanau landscapes by Tim Kennedy.

Kennedy is a professor of drawing and painting at Indiana University in Bloomington, His work depicts the still life of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in oil, charcoal and watercolor. They are the product of his 2007 artist's residency with the Glen Arbor Artists Association.

The exhibit will open with a reception for Kennedy at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the gallery, 6023 S. Lake St. His show will continue through Thursday. To learn more, call 334-3179.

Film explores 'Apocalypse Now'

TRAVERSE CITY -- The next film in the Traverse Area District Library's Cinema Curiosa series will trace events surrounding the making of "Apocalypse Now."

"Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" outlines Francis Ford Coppola's struggle with nature, governments, actors and self-doubt in an unflinching account of the making of the landmark film.

The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. July 7 at the State Theatre, 233 E. Front St. Tickets are $8 each. For more information, call 932-8505.

Prospectus is available for show

TRAVERSE CITY -- The prospectus for "Cross Currents: The Quilt's Influence on Contemporary Art" now is available.

Quilt and quilting motifs have influenced a wide range of art created throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. "Cross Currents" seeks original art in all media that explores and interprets this exchange.

The show will open Sept. 19 and run through Dec. 29 at The Art of Framing and Gallery, 430 W. 14th St. Entries should be dropped off from noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 for jurying, which will take place on Sept. 13, There is a $25 fee for up to two entries.

Quartet plays Mackinaw City

Mackinaw City -- Saturday's "Music in Mackinaw" Summer Concert will feature the musical talents of the Neptune Quartet.
