Grawn — The public is invited to preview Grawn United Methodist Church's upcoming Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course.
The preview will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, at the church, 1260 W. Silver Lake Road. The class will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays Sept. 9 through Dec. 9 in the church fellowship hall.

Central United hosts community party
Traverse City — The Well will host a community block party with the theme Friday Night Five.
The Well is a new casual, upbeat worship community at Central United Methodist Church. Weekly worship gatherings will begin Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the church chapel, 222 Cass St.
The block party will be hosted from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, in the parking lot behind the church. In case of rain the party will be held in the church fellowship hall.
It will introduce the building blocks for living (God, Space, Friends, Cause and Letting Go) in five mini segments of about 15 minutes each. There also will be music by the Well Band and the Women at the Well vocal ensemble, and refreshments.

'Amazing Race' will benefit Bethany kids
Traverse City — Bethany Christian Services will sponsor a fundraiser to benefit its foster care and older-child adoption programs.
"The Amazing Race for Bethany Kids" will be held Saturday, Aug. 28. Participants will travel the area seeking clues and competing in challenges to become the first team to reach the final destination. The race is limited to 40 teams of up to six participants.
The event will start with registration from noon to 12:30 p.m. at Bill Marsh, 1621 S. Garfield Ave., followed by a meet and greet and the start of the race at 1 p.m. The day will end with a pig roast and live music from 6 to 8 p.m.

Marriage training at Bayview Wesleyan
Traverse City — The Rev. Bob Moeller will conduct an "Unlocking the Heart" training seminar.
Moeller will share the basics in training people to be volunteers in helping married couples connect their hearts for a lifetime. Topics include "why is the heart the heart of marriage," "how do our hearts lock toward one another," "what tools can show a couple their damaged hearts," "how do you pray with someone for Christ to disconnect their pain" and more.
The seminar will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Bayview Wesleyan Church, 720 Wayne St. There is no charge, but a free-will offering will be accepted. Reservations are required. No child care will be available, and participants should plan lunch on their own.

Registration under way for Bible study
Traverse City — Registration is under way for an interdenominational, in-depth Bible study open to all women.
The 30-week Community Bible Study series will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays from September through May at Faith Reformed Church, 1139 E. Front St. Participants will study the book of Acts.

'Living Proof Live' will be simulcast
Harbor Springs — Women throughout northern Michigan are invited to a simulcast of LifeWay Women's "Living Proof Live" with author Beth Moore.
LifeWay Women's events attract more than 100,000 women each year. Moore, whose books and studies include "Breaking Free" and "Esther: It's Tough Being a Woman," is known for her ability to apply biblical scripture to everyday life.
The simulcast will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Harbor Light Community Chapel, 8220 Clayton Road. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. It will include a full day of music and worship, sessions led by Moore, lunch, an afternoon snack and opportunities for fellowship.
