Christian singles invited to dinner
Traverse City -- The Traverse Area Christian Singles Fellowship will meet for dinner on March 13. Reservations are due by Wednesday.

Lenten luncheon series continues
Traverse City -- The Rev. Jeri Litchfield from Williamsburg United Methodist Church will give the message at Thursday's Lenten Luncheon.
The meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster. Special music will start at noon, followed at 12:30 p.m. by Pastor Litchfield's reflection. The cost is $3 per person and all proceeds benefit local missions.

Coffee House will host discussions
Lake Ann -- The L.A. Coffee House at Lake Ann United Methodist Church will be the site for discussion forums on March 13 and 27.
The topic for March 13 is "If he needs a safe home, how do we shelter him." Skip Brown from Freedom Builders and Sarah Lucas from Homestretch will lead the discussion. The topic for March 27 will be "If she is hungry, how do we feed her." The discussion will be led by Dianne Navarro from the Fresh Food Partnership and Jan Heringa from the Lake Ann United Methodist food pantry.
The informal coffee house is open from 6:30 to 11 p.m., with live music and discussion until 8 p.m. After 8 p.m., attendees are encouraged to stay and socialize. Coffee and refreshments will be available for a small fee. The church is located at 6583 First St.
Swiss steak tops dinner menu
Kalkaska -- Kalkaska United Methodist Church is planning a swiss steak dinner.
The meal will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 13 at the church, 2525 Beebe Road. It includes swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable, dinner rolls, beverage and dessert. Carry-out meals and delivery are available.
The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 12 and younger, and $20 for families of four or more.
Mini-retreat to be held for area women
Traverse City -- Northland Community Church will host a mini-retreat for women based on the book "Lies Women Believe And The Truth That Sets Them Free" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
DeMoss is host and teacher for "Revive Our Hearts," a radio program for women. She also is the author of 11 books. In "Lies Women Believe," DeMoss addresses 40 common lies that trap Christian women today and then offers advice to help them begin to walk in freedom and joy.
The retreat will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. March 13 at the church, 9105 E. Fouch Road. It will include a presentation of the videos from the book, testimonies from women who recently completed the "Lies Women Believe" Bible study, and snacks. DeMoss' books will be available for $5 and free child care will be provided.

St. Patrick's Dinner benefits Haiti relief
Leland -- Leland Community United Methodist Church's 21st annual St. Patrick's Dinner will benefit the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.
The meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 14 in the Leland School cafeteria, 200 N. Grand Ave. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults and $4 for children. Kid-friendly food and take-out meals will be available.
Knights of Columbus will serve breakfast
Traverse City -- Knights of Columbus Council #13958 will serve breakfast on March 14.
The meal will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Francis Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union St. It will include regular and blueberry pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, apple sauce, coffee and more. Donations will be accepted. Call Howard Super, 275-7649, to learn more.
Chicago area pianist gives performance
Traverse City -- Pianist Jim Hendricks, professor of music at Chicago State University, will give a concert on March 14 at the First Congregational Church.
Hendricks has toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and has made three appearances at the Crystal Cathedral. He is best known for his recordings of classic tunes which he has arranged in the styles of Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson.

Help fight hunger in Grand Traverse area
Traverse City -- Trinity Lutheran Church is applying to The Feinstein Foundation in Rhode Island for its 13th annual $1 Million Giveaway to Fight Hunger.
Alan Shawn Feinstein launched a highly successful financial advisory newspaper column and private newsletter in 1974 and has written several best-selling financial guides. Since 1996, Feinstein has dedicated himself to philanthropic endeavors focusing on the advancement of public service and the alleviation of hunger.
The Feinstein Foundation challenges people to donate money or food items valued at $1 per item or pound to hunger-fighting agencies. The donations are recorded and the amount submitted to the Foundation, which will divide $1 million proportionately among participating agencies nationwide.
To help locally, direct monetary donations or food items to the Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 1003 S. Maple St., Traverse City, MI 49684, and mention the Feinstein Foundation. Donations must be received by April 30.
