Local Christian singles' group meets
Traverse City — The Traverse Area Christian Singles will meet tonight, Oct. 9.
The group will meet at 6 p.m. at Mabel's, 472 Munson Ave., for fellowship, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. For details or reservations, call 421-1260.
Author will give illustrated lecture
Bellaire — Catherine Frerichs will give an illustrated lecture on her book "Desires of the Heart: A Daughter Remembers Her Missionary Parents."
Frerichs grew up in Papua, New Guinea, with her siblings and her parents, missionaries from the American Lutheran Church. In her book, she uses her parents' letters and other research to write about their 40 years as missionaries. Frerichs is professor of writing at Grand Valley State University.
The lecture will start at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Church in the Hills, 6401 Shanty Creek Road. There is no charge and those attending are invited to bring a "bag supper."

Lasagna dinner at Old Mission church
Traverse City — Old Mission Congregational Church invites the community to a lasagna dinner.
The meal will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the church basement, 18687 Mission Road. The public is invited and free-will donations will be accepted. Call 223-4844 for more information.
Group continues book discussion
Traverse City — A group at Windward Church will continue discussing concepts presented in Manfred T. Brauch's book "Abusing Scripture: The Consequences of Misreading the Bible."
The group will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the church. The topic will be the abuse of biblical balance.

Dinner will benefit Methodist Women
Traverse City — Traverse Bay United Methodist Church's monthly swiss steak and chicken dinner will benefit the church's United Methodist Women.
The meal will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the church, 1200 Ramsdell Road.
The price is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 4 to 10 and free for children ages 3 and younger.
Marian Conference at Boyne Mountain
Boyne Falls — The 19th annual Marian Conference will be held Oct. 15 through 17 at Boyne Mountain Resort.
The conference is titled "Protect Us From All Anxiety." Speakers include the Rev. Mitch Pacwa, SJ, apologist Mark Shea, the Rev. Ben Luedtke, Sister Joseph Andrew from the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, the Rev. George McInnis, CPM, from the Fathers of Mercy, Bishops Bernard Hebda and Alexander Sample, and other inspirational speakers. Brian Flynn will provide music ministry.
