Art with 'deeper meaning' sought
Traverse City — Artwork often has a deeper meaning for an artist and can be a statement of faith, an emotional expression or a visual interpretation of something meaningful or profound. Artcenter Traverse City will explore this dimension of art with a juried exhibit and is seeking entries and jury assistance.
Entries for "It's Not Just Material" will be accepted Monday through Wednesday, June 28-30, at the Art Center, 720 S. Elmwood Ave., where the exhibit will be on display July 2-31. The show prospectus is available at www.artcentertraversecity.com.
Golf course designers give talk
Golf course design is the topic of Welcoming Wednesday on June 30.
Mike DeVries, of DeVries Designs, and Tom Doak, of Renaissance Golf Design, will talk about golf course architecture and what makes northern Michigan a good place for golf.
The event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., includes a welcome, a picnic supper, the presentation, children's activities during the presentation, a short vespers service, music and dessert. Dress is casual, and blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Call 882-4241 or go to www.benziestandrews.com.
Swiss steak and chicken dinner
Traverse City — Traverse Bay United Methodist Church will sponsor a fund-raising dinner for Christ United Methodist Church.
The swiss steak and chicken dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Traverse Bay UMC, 1200 Ramsdell Road. The cost is $8 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 4 to 10 and free for children ages 3 and younger.
New minister at Keswick church
Suttons Bay — The Rev. Chuck A. Williams will take over on Thursday, July 1, as minister of Keswick United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Williams has been in the ministry for 20 years. He is being transferred from Alden and Central Lake United Methodist churches to replace the Rev. Donald Spachman. The Rev. Spachman has been assigned to Hastings United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Williams' first sermon will be at the 9:30 a.m. service on Sunday, July 4. Keswick UMC is located at 3376 S. Center Highway, south of Suttons Bay. Call 271-3755.
Bazaar at Trinity Church in Northport
Northport — The Trinity Women's Fellowship will host a bazaar on Saturday, July 3, at the church, 103 N. Warren St.
The annual event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature baked goods, arts and crafts, and rugs and place mats just off the loom. "Stone Soup" will top the luncheon menu, and takeouts will be available.
Women of Influence host campout event
Traverse City — Reservations are needed by Monday, July 5, for women interested in joining the Women of Influence for a campout at Timber Ridge Resort.
The "Women in the Wild" campout will be held Friday and Saturday, July 23-24. The cost for a campsite is $40 a night, which is $8 per person for five people. Women are welcome to stay for one or two nights.
