House of Hope auction kicks off
WILLIAMSBURG -- House of Hope kicks off its online auction Monday.
The auction runs through Dec. 7. Items to bid on include Internet services, gift certificates, golf outings, artwork and quilts.
All proceeds benefit House of Hope, a residential program for troubled teens and their families. The 40-acre campus has room for numerous life skills programs, including the basics of auto mechanics, gardening, art classes, cooking and caring for farm animals.

Grawn church serving breakfast
GRAWN -- The Grawn United Methodist Church will be serving a pancake breakfast Sunday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and again from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The breakfast will be held at the church, 1260 W. Silver Lake Road. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 4 to 11 and free for children under 4. Call 943-8353.
Rabbi signing book downtown Nov. 21
TRAVERSE CITY -- Rabbi Albert Lewis, of Congregation Beth El in Traverse City, will be signing copies of his book Nov. 21.
The rabbi will be at the new downtown location of Rainbow Book Store, 204 E. Front Street, next to Espresso Bay, from noon to 2 p.m. The book, "Soul Sounds: Reflections on Life," is a collection of essays, including many that have appeared in the Record-Eagle.
Lewis will talk about his writing career, with emphasis on his collaboration in the interfaith community and how that collaboration influenced his writing.

Music event helps feed the hungry
TRAVERSE CITY -- "Hungry for Hope" will benefit the Northwest Michigan Food Coalition.
The Nov. 22 concert, which will re-create the sounds of B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Keb Mo and others, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 22 at the church, just off Airport Access Road. A nonperishable food is the freewill offering.
"The blues have grown from expressions of people's suffering," said the Rev. David Ramage, a member of neXus and a leader of the informal worship gathering that's held every Sunday at 11 a.m. at the church.

Interfaith T'giving service Nov. 23
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, Congregation Beth El and the All Saints Anglican Church will host an interfaith Thanksgiving service Nov. 23.
The service will be held at the Traverse Bay United Methodist Church at the corner of Bay and Ramsdell streets beginning at 7 p.m.
Music will be provided by choirs from Central United Methodist Church, the Peninsula Bible Church, First Congregational Church and others. Speakers include Reb Seth Castleman of Congregation Ahavat Shalom, the Rev. Kurt Henle of All Saints Anglican Church as well as representatives from First Christian Church, St. Francis Catholic Church and Central United Methodist Church.

Concert helps with Christmas boxes
TRAVERSE CITY -- A benefit concert for featuring the Psalm 21 Praise Team is scheduled for Nov. 21.
Donations and proceeds from sales of refreshments will benefit Operation Christmas Child and help pay for the shipping costs of the Christmas shoeboxes.

Movie about Fatima miracle screening
TRAVERSE CITY -- The movie "The 13th Day" will be shown at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
The movie tells the story of three shepherd childen in Fatima, Portugal, and the visions and miracles they witnessed. It will be shown Nov. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $2 per person or $10 for families.

Meg Meeker at next Moms in Christ
TRAVERSE CITY -- Author and doctor Meg Meeker will speak about parenting strong children at the next meeting of Mothers in Christ.
The meeting will be held Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the lower level of Christ the King Church, 3801 Shore Road, Acme. Meeker has written numerous books about raising children and has been a practicing pediatrician for 20 years. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Advisory Board of the Medical Institute.

Scandinavian luncheon scheduled
FRANKFORT -- A Scandinavian Christmas luncheon and bazaar will be held Nov. 21 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 955 James St., Frankfort.
There will be meatballs, apple salad, potatoes, green beans and a variety of Scandinavian desserts from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Take-out meals will be available. Lunch is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.
There will also be crafts and holiday decorations for sale as well as baked goods, including many kinds of Scandinavian cookies. Proceeds will go to various social service agencies in the area.

Deer hunters ball
is set for Nov. 21
MAPLE CITY -- The men's club of the St. Rita/St. Joseph parish is holding a Deer Hunters Ball Nov. 21.
Squeezebox from Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, will perform. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with entertainment going from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Admission is $10 per person, with proceeds benefiting the church's education department.
