St. Francis cookie sale is Dec. 5
TRAVERSE CITY -- St. Francis Catholic Church holds its annual cookie sale Dec. 5.
The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m in the St. Francis Parish Family Center, 1025 S. Union St. Cookies are $7 per pound and will feature hand-painted homemade sugar cookies, among a number of other varieties from the parish. Call Brenda Wurm, 946-8428, for more information.
The parish then holds its chicken dinner and family day Dec. 6.
There will be a free screening of "It's a Wonderful Life" at 11 a.m. and "The Nativity" at 1:15 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available with the drawing scheduled for 3 p.m.

Gospel sing this week in Kalkaska
KALKASKA -- A Sunday evening gospel sing will be held the last Sunday of each month, including this week.
The sing will be held at the Kalkaska Senior Center, 303 S. Coral St., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Bring a snack to share.

Hanging of the Greens is Sunday
FRANKFORT -- A special service at the Frankfort United Methodist Church Sunday will mark the first Sunday of Advent.
The Hanging of the Greens will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the symbolism of the evergreens will be discussed.

Methodist cookie walk Wednesday
TRAVERSE CITY -- The United Methodist Women will hold their annual cookie walk Wednesday.
Cookies will be sold for $6 for a small box and $8 for a large box beginning at 4 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 222 Cass St., Traverse City.
The sale will be in the main street foyer. All proceeds go to mission projects.

Community service gifts available at fair
HARBOR SPRINGS -- An Alternative Holiday Gift Fair will be held Dec. 5 at the First Presbyterian Church of Harbor Springs.
The gift fair focuses on local service agencies and allows for less commercial holiday giving.
For instance, a $30 donation to the Manna Food Project will provide spaghetti dinners for 30 families; a $25 donation to the Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency can pay for one week of electric heat.
The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall, 7940 Cemetery Road. Lunch will be available. For more information, call 526-7332.
