Singles for Christ holds potluck event

PETOSKEY -- Singles for Christ of Zion Lutheran Church will conduct a potluck picnic at 6 p.m. today at Depot Beach in Charlevoix. The event is for area singles ages 40 and over. Those attending should bring a place setting, beverage and a dish to pass. Swimming and a campfire on the beach are optional. Reservations are required. Tuesday concert at Church in the Hills

Bellaire -- "The Folk Side of Blues," a music concert featuring Jonah Powell on guitar and vocals and Michael Dorman on bass, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Church in the Hills. Cost is $15 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets are available by calling the church office, 533-6001. For details, call 331-6587.

Speaker discusses Iran experiences

TRAVERSE CITY -- The "If Americans Only Knew" speaker series continues with the program "Update on Iran, Voices from Tehran" taking place at 7 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Friends Meeting House, Fifth and Oak streets.

The program will be presented by Cathy Lester, a retired educator from Grayling who visited Iran this summer.

Lester lived and taught in Iran at the time of the revolution and has kept in contact with Iranian friends. The event is sponsored by MidEast: JustPeace, Traverse for Peace and Justice, Campaign Against Torture and Neahtawanta Center.

Talents on stage at Old Mission church

Jungian expert at Potter's House

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Potter's House will conduct it's third annual Jungian Psychology seminar series with Jungian analyst The Rev. Dr. Paul Sanderson. The evening discussion "Re-visioning Christianity: Carl Jung's Contribution to the Psychology of Religion" will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St. Suggested donation is $10.

A special discussion will take place at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Grace Episcopal.

Dr. Sanderson, a Jungian analyst at Boston's Jung Institute, teaches psychology at Assumption College in Worcester, and pastors the Southborough Community Church. Dr. Sanderson will share how insights from Carl Jung's psychology are helpful in recasting our understanding of religion, in particular Christianity.

CYAN group offers events for singles

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Christian Young Adult Network is a group of young adult Catholics between the ages of 18 and 35 living in the Grand Traverse area who gather to pray, learn more about their faith, meet others, serve the community and participate in social events. They meet every other Saturday at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Concep-tion Church.

Used book sale at UU Congregation

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Unitarian Universalist Congregation will con-duct its annual Used Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 at the church, 6726 Center Road.

Gospel music at Glen Arbor church

GLEN ARBOR -- Final Generation, a gospel group from Traverse City, will be performing an outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Glen Lake Com-munity Reformed Church, 4902 W. MacFarlane Road.

Concert-goers should bring a lawn chair or blanket. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be inside.

An offering will be taken.

Zion Lutheran holds summer carnival

PETOSKEY -- Zion Lu-theran Church will sponsor a Community Carnival from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at the church, 500 W. Mitchell St.

The event will have food booths, a silent auction table, free games for the kids and more.

Pig roast to benefit Grawn resident

GRAWN -- Members of Grawn United Methodist Church will offer their 22nd annual Pig Roast and Silent Auction from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at the church, 1260 W. Silver Lake Road S.

In exchange for the meal, the church is ask-ing for donations to help defray medical expenses for Everett Fournier, of Grawn, who is receiv-ing hospice care due to advanced emphysema and Chronic Obstructive Pul-monary Disease.

Ten percent of all pro-ceeds will be tithed to the church. For details, call 943-8353.

Community Bible study starting up

TRAVERSE CITY -- Reg-istrations currently are being accepted for Com-munity Bible Study, an interdenominational, in-depth Bible study open to all women. The program is a 30-week study of the Book of John. The group meets from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays from Septem-ber through May at Faith Reformed Church, 1139 E. Front St. Call 883-6732.

Fall craft show seeking vendors

KALKASKA -- The Kalkaska United Method-ist Church is sponsoring its third annual Fall Harvest Festival Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at the church, 2525 Beebe Road. Crafters who would like to reserve a table should call 587-0370.
