Bishop Baraga School open house
Cheboygan -- Bishop Baraga Catholic School will host an all-school open house on Tuesday.
The school was established in 1856 by Bishop Frederic Baraga. It has been at its current location, 623 W. Lincoln Ave., since Sept. 2005.
The open house will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Lenten luncheon series continues
Traverse City -- Church Women United's Lenten Luncheon series will continue on Thursday.
The meal will begin at 11:30 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster. Fred Szczepanski from St. Francis Catholic Church will provide music starting at noon. The Rev. Kenneth Stachnik, pastor at St. Francis, will give the Lenten message from 12:30 to 1 p.m. A $3 donation for the meal is requested and proceeds benefit local missions.

Dinner will benefit church food pantry
Honor -- Cherry Bowl Gifts and Goodies will host a "Celebrate Spring-Feed Benzie" fundraiser for the Fresh Wind Community Food Pantry.
Fresh Wind Community Church is a non-denominational church/ministry in Benzie County. Worship is at 10 a.m. on Sundays at Benzie Central High School, 9200 Homestead Road. Children's ministry and nursery are provided. The food pantry is located at the Ministry Center, 269 N. Michigan Ave., Beulah, and currently serves more than 70 families. Food and clothes are distributed from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
The fundraiser will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on March 20 at Cherry Bowl Gifts and Goodies, next to the Cherry Bowl Drive-In. It precedes the Special Olympics benefit basketball game at 6 p.m. at Benzie Central High School. It will include a spaghetti meal, an Easter basket sale, silent auction, petting zoo, crafts and live music. The suggested donation for the meal is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 12, free for children ages 4 and younger or $20 per family.

Empire church will serve U.P. pasties
Empire -- Pastry pockets filled with meat and vegetables, will be the highlight of Empire United Methodist Church's fifth annual Pasty Dinner.
The meal will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on March 20 at the church. It includes a pasty, gravy, Jello salad, cole slaw, dessert and beverage. The cost is $9 each. A family price of $18 is available for parents and small children. Take-out pasties also will be available.
Children's choir prepares for musical
Traverse City -- The Central Choristers, a children's choir at Central United Methodist Church, are rehearsing for a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
The choir includes children from third through sixth grade who rehearse during the school year on Sunday mornings. They perform at the church throughout the year under the direction of Jeff Cobb.

Community Living Center benefit
Traverse City -- The St. Patrick Men's Club will prepare and host a pancake breakfast to benefit the activities fund of the Community Living Center.
The fund receives its financial support from donations only and allows the Community Living Center to take adults with developmental disabilities on outings such as Interlochen concerts, trips and more.
The meal will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 21 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 630 W. Silver Lake Road. The cost is $5.50 for adults, $3.50 for children, free for children ages 4 and younger, and $20 for families. Additional donations are appreciated and the meal is being financially sponsored by Elaine and Roger Loffelbein, which allows a larger donation to the fund.
Service will mark seventh year of war
Traverse City -- An interfaith service on March 21 will mark seven years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The service will start at 3 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St. It will include a reading of the names of Michigan soldiers who have died during the past year, prayers for peace from various faith traditions and a meditation on peace by the Rev. Daniel Richards of Grace Church. A reception will follow.

Church will offer Pathways Program
Empire -- Empire United Methodist Church will offer the second session in a three-part Pathways Program.
"Anticipations Beheld on the Pathway" will meet on March 24 at the church. The group will gather at 5:45 p.m. for a 6 p.m. soup supper. Adult group and Kingdom Kids sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will close with a prayer service at 7:15 p.m.
The church will provide activities, materials and supper. The series will close April 28 with "Awakenings on the Pathway."
TC Christian hosts 'Transform 2010'
Traverse City -- "An Evening with Joseph Stowell" will be part of Traverse City Christian Schools' "Transform 2010" event.
Dr. Stowell serves on the board of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and has a distinguished career in higher education and church leadership. Prior to assuming the presidency at Cornerstone University, he served for 18 years as president of Moody Bible Institute in downtown Chicago.
The event will start with hors d'oeuvres and light refreshments at 6:15 p.m. March 25, followed by a program at 7 p.m. at Traverse City Christian Schools' Emerson Road campus. TC Church accepts Feinstein challenge
Traverse City -- Grace Episcopal Church will participate in the Feinstein Foundation Challenge to Fight Hunger.
Alan Shawn Feinstein launched a successful financial advisory newspaper column and private newsletter in 1974. Since 1996, he has dedicated himself to philanthropic work in public service and the alleviation of hunger. The Feinstein Foundation challenges people to give money or food items valued at $1 per item or pound to hunger-fighting agencies. The donations are recorded and submitted to the foundation, which will divide $1 million proportionately among participating agencies.
Money and food given to the church's Community Pantry during March and April may be doubled by the Foundation. Donations can include cash, checks, pledges and food items. Donors should note "Feinstein Challenge" on all checks, cash donations and bags and boxes of food. Donations may be dropped off at the church, 341 Washington St. For details, call 947-2330.
