Area musicians will join Gospel Sing

Kalkaska -- The Sunday Evening Gospel Sing will feature area musicians in quartets, duets, and solos, plus a sing-along. All ages are welcome.

The event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Kalkaska Senior Center, 303 S. Coral St. Featured musicians include Randy Atwood, Debbie Wood and others.

Attendees are asked to bring a snack to share. For details, call 258-6587.

UU Congregation dedicates addition

Traverse City -- The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse invites the public to an open house and dedication for its new addition.

The church recently expanded its 18-year-old building to offer more classroom and meeting space. The 1600-square-foot addition was designed by CWS Architects and built by Burdco Construction.

The open house and dedication ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, following the morning worship service. It will include music, refreshments and a ceremony with children from the congregation and other area clergy.

Program will offer financial peace

Traverse City -- St. Patrick Catholic Church will offer Dave Ramsey's 13-week "Financial Peace University."

The program helps families and individuals learn how to handle their money through common-sense principles and small group accountability. Ramsey began teaching the course in 1994 around Nashville, Tenn. In 1997, it was made available on video across the country.

The class will begin at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Patrick Church, 620 W. Silver Lake Road. Each class participant needs a kit and special rates are available through the class coordinator. Love INC has partnered with the church to offer scholarship information for families who cannot afford to purchase the course material.

Lenten Luncheon ministry continues

Traverse City -- Church Women United will continue their Lenten Luncheon ministry on Thursday.

Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster. Special music will start at noon, followed at 12:30 p.m. by a Lenten message from the Rev. Chris Lane of Central United Methodist Church.

A $3 donation is requested and all proceeds will be used for local missions. For details, call Vera Sparks, 938-1387.

Public invited to Lenten fish dinners

Interlochen -- Redeemer Lutheran Church will host a fish fry dinner on Fridays through Lent.

The meal will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the church. The menu includes baked or fried fish, baked potato or french fries, cole slaw, Texas toast and dessert.

The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and younger. Call 276-6372 to learn more.

Class focus is basic Christian beliefs

Traverse City -- First Congregational Church will hold an 11-week, video-based, practical introduction to the Christian faith. Registrations are due by Friday.

Alpha class will start at 6:15 p.m. on March 10 and continue on Wednesdays through May 26 at the church, 6105 Center Road. Participants are invited to come between 5:30 and 6 p.m. for a buffet dinner before class. The meal cost is $6 and reservations are required.

Nursery care for children ages 3 and younger can be arranged if planned ahead. Activities for children ages 4 through fifth grade and First Congregational Youth Ministry for sixth through 12th graders also are available. For details or to register, call the church, 947-6698.

Women of Influence hold workshop

Traverse City -- The local Women of Influence ministry will hold its first workshop on March 6.

Women of Influence is a new women's ministry. It hosts quarterly transdenominational gatherings to support, encourage and network with women of faith. In between the quarterly gatherings there are smaller gatherings and workshops to give women ways to connect and pursue personal and professional development opportunities.

"Free To Love, Free To Live" will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 6 at a location to be announced. A soup and salad luncheon will be followed by simple exercises, small group discussion and prayer ministry. Teacher-facilitator Julie Elliott-Eicheroth will use Scriptural principles to help women manage their minds, emotions and relationships and gain insights to help them begin their journey toward freedom.

Plans under way for Easter Day dinner

Traverse City -- Planning has begun for the 18th annual Community Easter Day Dinner sponsored by the Community Meals Program.

The meal will be served from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on April 4 at VFW Post 2780, 3400 Veterans Dr. Meals will be delivered starting at 12:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help with food preparation from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., deliver meals starting at 12:30 p.m., serve the public from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and clean up from 4 to 6 p.m. Donations of baked goods, crafts, cards, plastic bags and brown grocery bags may be dropped off at the meal site from 9 a.m. to noon on April 3.

Donations of time, cash, food, items for survival kits, Easter lilies, book marks, pencils, cards with verses, vans and more also are needed. Checks payable to the Community Meals Program with a notation "Easter Dinner" may be mailed to P.O. Box 102, Traverse City, MI 49685.

Call Meal Coordinator Sandra Svec, 263-7130, to volunteer, make a donation, share the names of shut-ins or those who will be alone on Easter, or to arrange for transportation.
