Nonprofit provides for abandoned horses

TRAVERSE CITY — With a steady flow of petting hands and interest, Star and Naomi were helping fellow equines in distress.

The two miniature horses were mini-celebrities as they calmly munched hay during a visit Saturday to Tractor Supply in Traverse City. Enclosed inside a mini-fence near the store's entrance, they took the fuss in stride.

A can-drive fundraiser was held at the same time as this hands-on "friendraiser" for Horse North Rescue. The nonprofit organization helps rescued or donated horses and ponies who have been abused, abandoned or neglected.
