Free child safety seat inspections
TRAVERSE CITY -- Reservations are recommended for free child safety seat inspections being offered by AAA Michigan and Safe Kids.
The free inspections will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 10 at the Traverse City AAA branch, 940 U.S. 31 N. It will include information on the proper use and installation of child safety seats including booster seats. To schedule an inspection, call (800) 646-4222. Those without reservations will be given the first available opening.
GT Pavilions will sponsor film series
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse Pavilions will host the Cherry Classic Film Series to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of its flagship operation, Grand Traverse Medical Care.
The films, which all premiered in 1959, will be shown at 10 a.m. at the State Theatre, 233 E. Front St. The series will open with "Operation Petticoat" on Monday, "A Summer Place" will be screened Tuesday, "Suddenly Last Summer" Wednesday, "Pillow Talk" July 9 and the series will close with "Anatomy of a Murder" July 10. Boot camp program for all fitness levels
TRAVERSE CITY -- A new fitness program is being offered to help men, women and students of all fitness levels get in shape and stay in shape this summer.
The new boot camp program will meet from 6 to 7 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the East Silver Lake area. Michelle Cronin will lead the classes. She is certified through AFAA and has 10 years of experience.

Tennis camp for grieving children
TRAVERSE CITY -- Building on the success of its inaugural tennis camp in 2008, Munson Hospice will again offer free tennis camps for children ages 7 to 12 who have lost a significant person in their lives.
The free camps will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. July 13 through 16 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Acme, and 3 to 5 p.m. July 23 through 26 at West Senior High School, 5376 N. Long Lake Road. Each session includes a group discussion with a professional grief counselor.

Benzie bike ride benefits charity
THOMPSONVILLE -- Benzie Sunrise Rotary of Beulah and Crystal Mountain Resort will sponsor a "Bike Benzie Ride for Kids" on July 18.
Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate. There will be three distance options, a metric century (62 miles) and half-century (31 miles), which both begin at 7:30 a.m., and a Family Fun Ride (3.5 miles) starting at 9 a.m. All rides begin and end at Crystal Mountain Resort. Proceeds will benefit Benzie County schoolchildren and the Rotary International Foundation, in order to provide matching funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's $255 million challenge grant to eradicate polio worldwide.

Summer seminar series continues
TRAVERSE CITY -- Two programs remain in a summer seminar series being sponsored by Burr Chiropractic & Wellness.
The remaining seminars are "Arthritis Relief and Prevention" on July 15 and "Five Steps to Weight Loss" on Aug. 12. Third Level offers youth activities
TRAVERSE CITY -- Third Level Crisis Intervention Center is offering summer activities for youth ages 13 to 18 in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties.
Activities include picnics, bike rides, ice skating at Centre Ice, kayak trips, a mural project at Studio 7 Arts, sailing the Madeline, participation in the Cherry Festival's Junior Royale Parade and more. All activities are supervised by Third Level counselors, street outreach workers and volunteers.

Classes for women in cancer treatment
TRAVERSE CITY -- One treatment not prescribed by doctors is the American Cancer Society's "Look Good ... Feel Better" classes for women undergoing cancer treatment.
The free classes are designed to help women feel better about their physical appearance and include beauty advice from a licensed cosmetologist on hair and wig care, finding and wearing the right hat, wig or scarf, and make-up tips along with a free make-up kit.
The classes meet from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Copper Ridge Boutique in Copper Ridge off Silver Lake Road. The next class will be July 14. To register, call Judy Blandin, 357-0379.
