Local adviser writes 'Virtue of Wealth'

TRAVERSE CITY -- Local financial adviser Paul Sutherland has published "The Virtue of Wealth," a reminder that relationships are our real riches and financial success is just one way to nurture relationships.

"Society, media, friends and family all directly or indirectly contribute to a culture of getting and spending," Sutherland said. "Wants begin to feel like needs when the neighbors have one, your kids want one, and your mother asks why you don't have one. Are we missing out on life by using precious time to shop for, buy, store and take care of our stuff? Getting and spending has taken the place of earning, relaxing, enjoying life ... and saving."

"The Virture of Wealth" is published by Spirituality & Health Books and sells for $16.95. For more information, go to www.spirituality-health.com.

Book looks at sociology of region

TRAVERSE CITY -- Local author Richard Fidler has published "Who We Were, What We Did: Fresh Perspectives on Grand Traverse History."

The former ninth-grade biology teacher describes the social, political, environmental and moral issues of our region's history. He writes about how poor people in Grand Traverse County were cared for, past forays into dissension as well as patriotrism, crime and justice and humans' effect on Grand Traverse Bay.

Fidler previously authored "Glimpses of Grand Traverse Past."

"Who We Were, What We Did" is published by the Traverse Area Historical Society and sells for $17.95. All proceeds go to the historical society. The book is available at the Heritage Center and at local bookstores.

'Inherit All Things' set near water

TRAVERSE CITY -- Ryan Fenzel's new novel, "Inherit All Things," depicts a quest for treasure that takes place in and around the Great Lakes.

Scenes take place in the Manitou Passage, the west Michigan sand dunes, Lake Michigan beaches and coastal forests. The book "takes readers away from reality," Fenzel said. He hopes to spotlight the state's beauty even though much of the news about Michigan is gloomy.

Fenzel will be signing copies of "Inherit All Things" Saturday, Aug. 8, at Horizon Books in Traverse City. The book, published by Ironcroft Publishing, lists for $13.95 and is available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and local bookshops. For more information, go to www.jryanfenzel.com.
