Ice, sailing contest in St. Ignace

ST. IGNACE — A ice and sailing championship will be held in St. Ignance Feb. 20-26.

The World Ice and Snow Sailing Association will hold its competition for kite, wing and windsurfing ice sailors. Organizers expect between 80 and 100 competitors, who will sail to Mackinac Island and back.

More e-reader workshops set

TRAVERSE CITY — More e-reader workshops have been scheduled at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave.

Wooten to talk in Elk Rapids

ELK RAPIDS — Terry Wooten will talk about his latest book in Elk Rapids Thursday, Feb. 23.

Wooten, a poet and Record-Eagle columnist, will talk about the stories and "outtakes" in "Water Under the Bridge," poems from the Elders Project.

The talk will begin at 7 p.m. at the Elk Rapids Area Historical Society, 301 Traverse St. There is a $5 suggested donation. For more information, email lindapillsbury@yahoo.com.

Editing, marketing workshop Feb. 28

TRAVERSE CITY — A Michigan Writers workshop about editing and marketing for writers is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The workshop, Essentials for Publishing Success, will be lead by Mary Jo Zazueta, an editor and book designer. It will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Northwestern Michigan College's University Center on Cass Road, room 217.

More than 3,100 mittens collected

MADISON, Wis. — More than 3,100 mittens were collected in Wisconsin for the Great Lakes Mitten Campaign, a joint project between the Wisconsin Department of Tourism and Pure Michigan.

Wisconsin gathered mittens that it will donate to more than 50 charities. Pure Michigan encouraged people to donate directly to a charity.
