The AuSable Free Clinic in Grayling has received a $15,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as part of its support to the uninsured and underinsured residents of Michigan.
The AuSable Free Clinic is a nonprofit organization that opened in 2005 to provide health care and referral services to the uninsured, low-income residents of Crawford, Oscoda, Roscommon and Montmorency counties. It has walk-in services every Thursday afternoon staffed by volunteers.
The grant will be used to continue and expand health care services. So far in 2011, the clinic has had 41 afternoon clinics, serving more than 570 patients.

The Zonta Club of Traverse City recently distributed grants totaling $16,280 through its 2011 Mini Grant program.
Grant recipients were Abba's House (formerly House of Hope) for its Life Skills program; Catholic Human Services for its Host Homes for Homeless Youth program; Angel Care Childcare; Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation for the Mommy & Me project; Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency for supplemental funds for Meals on Wheels; Northern Michigan Single Mom Christian Services for its PEACE Ranch program; Traverse City Area Public Schools for the Students in Transition Empowerment Program; Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center for the Shaken Baby Awareness Campaign; and Traverse Health Clinic.
Mini Grants are awarded annually and Major Grants are awarded every two years.
