TRAVERSE CITY — Michigan songwriter Drew Nelson will present a concert at Sleder's Family Tavern Sunday at 3 p.m.
The show celebrates his new release, "Tilt-A-Whirl," recorded in Michigan.
The album of working class tales sprang out of a chance encounter with a friend in 2011. It had been two years since Nelson's radio-charting album, "Dusty Road to Beulah Land," came out. His friend told him he needed to make a new CD — and wrote a check to pay for it.
"I started to call all the musicians I knew that I wanted on the CD and just lived in the studio for the next two weeks, writing two new songs and recording almost everything live," Nelson said in a press release.
Collaborating on the songs were Michael Crittenden (B-3 organ, Wurlitzer, piano, guitars), Mark R. Schrock (bass, mandolin, vocals), Brian Morrill (drums), Drew Howard (pedal steel, Dobro), Jen Sygit (vocals) and Bettye LaVette's guitarist, Brett Lucas.
Tickets are $15 to $20. Call 947-9213 for more information or visit www.sleders.com.
