Book is set is on Lake Charlevoix

Jennifer (Labadie) Fromke, an annual vacationer on Torch Lake who lives in North Carolina, has written "A Familiar Shore."

The book is set along the shores of Lake Charlevoix. Meg Marks is hired by an anonymous client to arrange his will and she goes to the family cottage, where she makes a shocking discover.

Michigan Writers' Chapbook winners

Traverse City — The Michigan Writers Cooperative Press has selected the 2012 Chapbook Contest winners.

The winners are: Jim Crockett for his poetry collection "Exit Wounds." Michael Hughes for his poetry collection "First Risings." Bruce L. Makie for his short fiction collection "Fathers and Sons."

The Chapbooks will be launched June 17 at the Interlochen Arts Academy Writer's House. For details, visit www.michwriters.org.

Priest uses big rig to make special deliveries

Father Ray Cotter delivers more than sermons. Two weeks ago, the former truck truck driver turned priest drove a semi-tractor-trailer rig to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., to pick up 1,164 free military computers for use in Michigan Catholic schools in the dioceses of Lansing, Saginaw, Gaylord and Marquette.
