Manistee canning class

MANISTEE — Manistee Community Kitchen will sponsor its final gardening class of the year when it presents "Canning Safely" on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Those attending should bring a canning jar, new lid and ring. The class will be held at the St. Joseph's Parish Center, 251 6th Street, Manistee.

Weekend for reds

TRAVERSE CITY — Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail is holding "The Hunt for the Reds of October" Oct. 26-28 to bring attention to the area's red wines.

All weekend, 12 wineries will be offering tastings of a diverse selection that includes dark and spicy Cabernet Francs, smooth and floral Pinot Noirs and a range of vinifera and hybrid reds that are representative of Leelanau's vineyards.

The event is free to those who know the secret launch code: "The Hunt is on!"
