Adult lecture series at UU Congregation
Traverse City — The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse will continue its Chautauqua lecture series with a program on community-supported agriculture.
Lectures were the mainstay of Chautauqua, an adult education movement popular in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The program will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the UU Congregation, 6726 Center Road. Nic Welty of 9BeanRows Community Supported Agriculture will discuss organic farming, permaculture, heirloom vegetable varieties and more.

Men fry up fish for church dinner
Kalkaska — Catfish will top the menu when the United Methodist Men host their spring "Fish Fry."
The meal will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Kalkaska United Methodist Church, 2525 Beebe Road. The cost is $8 per person.
Get your motorcycle and 'Ride 2 Haiti'
Blair Township — The Disaster Relief Team of Buckley Gospel Tabernacle will sponsor a motorcycle day trip to raise money for a May mission trip.
The "Ride 2 Haiti" will start with registration from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Wilderness Crossing, 1355 Wildness Crossings Blvd. The ride will start at noon. It will travel through Benzie County to Manistee and north to the church, 213 E. Wexford Ave., Buckley, where there will be a silent auction from 2 to 4 p.m. and a pig roast from 2 to 6 p.m. The ride is $20 per bike. The dinner is $5 per person and is open to the public.

Discussion will follow film screening
Traverse City — Central United Methodist Church will host a soup supper and a screening of "Incompatible with Christian Teaching" followed by a discussion with the film's director, Anne P. Brown.
Brown has produced eight live action and three documentary shorts. "Incompatible with Christian Teaching" is her first feature-length documentary, which she also produced, edited and co-directed. It encourages viewers to explore the complex issue of how churches can be open to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people.

Local church hosts Global Day of Prayer
Traverse City — On Pentecost Sunday, May 23, the congregation at Bayview Wesleyan Church invites the public to join them in observing Global Day of Prayer.
The worldwide celebration is centered around Pentecost Sunday. It was started in 2000 by South African Christian businessman Graham Power with the mission to unite the global body of Christ. Since its inception, Global Day of Prayer has expanded to include millions of Christians in all 220 nations of the world uniting in prayer.
The celebration will start at 2 p.m. at Bayview Wesleyan Church, 720 Wayne St. There will be music by the Ukrainian children's choir and junior high choir from the Church of Evangelical Faith, and the senior choir from Traverse City Christian High School.
Speaker will discuss prayer and healing
Traverse City — John Adams will visit Traverse City to give a talk on prayer and healing.
Adams is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship, a teacher and Christian Science practitioner. He moved to New York City from the Midwest to pursue an acting career. His study of "Science and Health" changed his life and in 1985 he sold the nine flower shops he owned in New York to become a full-time practitioner of Christian Science healing. His visit is sponsored by the Traverse City First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Adams will discuss "Does Christian Science Really Heal Sickness and Sin" at 7 p.m. Monday, May 24, at the Hagerty Center, 715 E. Front St. The program is free and open to the public. For details, call 947-6293.
Bear Lake church celebrates rhubarb
Bear Lake — Bear Lake Christian Church will host its 11th annual Rhubarb Social Memorial Day weekend.
The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m., rain or shine, Sunday, May 30, under the church's new pavilion on M-72, 12 miles east of Kalkaska. The church will serve rhubarb pie a la mode and rhubarb desserts for $3 each; whole pies for $10; and a hot dog, chips and drink meal for $3.
The celebration also will feature live music by The Cats and the Fiddler, a dunk tank, a raffle and a sing-along. The public is welcome.
