TRAVERSE CITY -- Ten photographers set out to capture spring in Michigan.
The result is "Pure Michigan," a coffee table book with 110 photos.
The photographers took pictures last year. Each was assigned a geographic region and competed for a $5,000 grand prize. Kent Miller of Bay City won with his pictures from the Flint area.
Drew Smith, whose family spends summers at Walloon Lake, photographed the Benzie area, and Jon Holderer of New York was assigned Traverse City.
Smith's photos include a swimming platform at the Chimney Corners Resort on Crystal Lake at dawn, fireworks at Elberta's Solstice Festival and fly-fishing on the Platte River.
Holderer's pictures, besides the Pierce Stocking Drive image shown here, include beach-goers at Clinch Park and West End, cherry blossoms on Bunker Hill and a sunset over West Bay.
The book is published by Adventure Publications of Cambridge, Minn., and Firefly Productions of Traverse City. The book sells for $17.95 and is available at local bookstores. For more information, go to www.adventurepublications.com.
