Entrepreneur book

TRAVERSE CITY — Arthur W. Hoffman, of Traverse City, has written “Jobs — Apprentice 101.” The book, subtitled, “An American Solution, Creating Jobs, Entrepreneurs and Reducing Poverty,” is self-published by iUniverse and sells for $11.95 in paperback.

Hoffman is an engineer and consultant to the automotive industry. He has a doctorate in educational leadership from Western Michigan University and an MBA in management and supervision from Central Michigan University.

Many signings

GLEN ARBOR — Michigan native Lori Taylor, an artist-in-residence at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in 2007, has started a series of books for elementary-age children based on Michigan parks and wilderness. She is the writer and illustrator.

She’ll be signing the first book, “Bamboozled on Beaver Island,” at the Cottage Book Shop, 5989 Lake St., Glen Arbor, on Wednesday, July 18, 1-3 p.m.. She also expects to have the second book in the series, “Let Sleeping Bear Dunes Lie,” available at the signing.

‘Ford Road’

DETROIT — Historian Amy Kenyon has written “Ford Road,” about Kay Seger, who abandons her career in Los Angeles to return to her childhood home in Detroit, where she rekindles an affair with her teenage boyfriend and finds recollections of a bygone Detroit through her mother’s papers, letters and photos.

Tigers book

DETROIT — “The Glory Years of the Detroit Tigers” by William M. Anderson, is 460 pages of photos, stories and details of the baseball team from 1920 to 1950.

There’s also a foreword by sportscaster Dan Dickerson.

The book is published by Wayne State University Press and sells for $39.95 in hardcover.

TRAVERSE CITY — “The Heart of a Priest” by Traverse City writer Paul LaPorte, won the Catholic Book Award from the Catholic Press Association.

The biography of Father Edwin Frederick is told through stories from family, friends, patients, parishioners and others. Frederick started the Father Fred Foundation after the Traverse City State Hospital closed. The 240-page book, published by Mission Communications, sells for $29.95. A collector’s edition sells for $100.

ArtPrize day trip

Elk Rapids — Art Rapids is offering a limited number of tickets for a day trip to Grand Rapids to tour highlights of the ArtPrize competition.

A charter bus will travel to Grand Rapids Thursday, Oct. 4. Tickets are $65 each and include transportation, guided tours and light snacks. Reservations will be accepted in order of the dates checks are received and must be paid by Aug. 1. Only the first 54 paid reservations will be taken.

Bonner signing

TRAVERSE CITY — Susan Case Bonner will be signing her new children’s book, “My Whole Self Before You,” 243 E. Front St., Traverse City, Sunday, July 22, 2-4 p.m.

She’ll also be at the store Aug. 25, noon-2 p.m.

The book is an illustrated Child’s Prayer and Learning Guide modeled after the Lord’s Prayer.

Crockett birthday

TRAVERSE CITY — A free birthday party for and poetry reading by Jim Crockett will be Tuesday, July 17, 7 p.m., at Brilliant Books, 118 Front St., Traverse City.

Crockett, who will be turning 70, has a new poetry collection, “Exit Wounds.” He’s a singer-songwriter, teacher, cabinet maker and former dairy farmer.
