The Women's Resource Center, a domestic violence agency serving the Grand Traverse region, has received a $20,000 grant from the Mary Kay Foundation.
The Mary Kay Foundation awards $20,000 grants to more than 150 domestic violence shelters across the country. The Women's Resource Center was one of just four programs in Michigan to receive this funding.
The Womens Resource Center will use the grant to provide critical support for its three Transitional Houses and Emergency Shelter. In 2011, the WRC provided housing to more than 400 women and children in the five-county region.
Three Grand Traverse Pavlions' employees are among eight recipients in the state to receive $1,000 scholarships from the Michigan County Medical Care Facilities Council. The employees are licensed practical nurses Melissa Moss and Nancy Hogue, both of Traverse City; and Roxanne McCrimmon of Kingsley.
The Wexford-Missaukee Area Great Start Collaborative has received a $2,000 grant funded by the Helen and Harvey Pell Fund for Education of the Cadillac Area Community Foundation.
The grant will be used to sponsor a local Early Childhood Conference in March 2013 in conjunction with Parenting Awareness Month. It will be aimed at helping parents, grandparents, care providers and educators increase their knowledge, skills, expertise and awareness of child development topics.
