Grand Traverse Distillery, a local vodka distillery, won praise and awards at the 2009 International Review of Spirits competition in Chicago.
The Beverage Tasting Institute gave Grand Traverse Distillery's new Wheat Vodka a gold medal rating of 93 in the "Unflavored Vodka" category.The original True North Vodka received a 92 gold medal rating in the same category, while the Grand Cherry Vodka received 87 points for a silver medal rating in the "Flavored Vodka" category.

The Boyne City Farmers Market has moved indoors for the first time. The market will be open in downtown Boyne City on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 126 Water St. (formerly Kiss Carpet). If the market goes well and generates enough interest, there may be an opportunity for the market to continue beyond November.
