-- Last Thursday evening occurred the formal opening of the Northern Michigan Maccabee Association when a reception and dance were given in honor of the visiting delegates. The instrumental part of the program was furnished by the Mull & Beardsley orchestra of four pieces which gave excellent satisfaction with encores greeting every number they gave.
-- On Labor Day, a banker in a neighboring town employed a woman to scrub out the bank as no one would be around to molest her in the performance of her duties. He was in the bank at the time and had the vault open working on the books. The woman finished her work and left the building. When the banker was through with his work, he closed the vault. Nothing was missed the next day but Wednesday it was found that the bank was shy a package of $500. Local sleuths solved the mystery, the woman was found and confessed then gave up the spoils.
-- Dr. and Mrs. Munson left this noon for Cadillac where they will spend several days. It is expected that they will participate in several social events and Dr. Munson plans to speak before a group of merchants at that place.
-- Charles H. Broadfoot and his brother, J. R. Broadfoot have purchased the Wright Laundry from W. M. Wright and will take possession of it today. Both are active and enterprising young men and will make the business first class. All clothes will be washed in sterilized water and pure soap will be used.
-- E. H. Brown and mother left this morning for Benzonia where he has a position at the academy to teach. Miss Rowena Brown has a position at the LaMode Millinery and will remain here until November.
-- E. E. Blair, who has been spending the summer at Bay View, arrived in the city this morning. He will visit here for a short time before returning to his home at Detroit.
-- The Western Michigan development Bureau has secured four photographic views of the Charlevoix county fair which closed its gates at East Jordan Wednesday night. These views show the various phases of the fair which has proved to be the most successful in the history of the county.
-- One of the notable weddings of the current season took place Saturday between Ann Northcott of Springfield, Illinois and Walter Alpaugh of Williamantte, Connecticut. The ceremony was in the beautiful garden at the Northcott cottage in Omena, relatives and friends from all over the country were in attendance, among them being the bride's mother from South America. A wedding breakfast was served at the Oaks and in late afternoon, the couple left for a short wedding trip.
-- A. V. Friedrich and son, Spaulding will leave tonight for Detroit where they will be for a few days on business. They expect to return to this city on Saturday.
-- Jake Vogl, for sometime a clerk in the shoe department of the Hannah & Lay Mercantile Company's store, has handed in his resignation. He will leave soon for Flint where he has accepted a similar position.
-- T. G. Reed and wife left this morning for Detroit where they will spend a few days with friends. They will then continue their trip through Canada.
-- Advice on deportment. A true gentleman always tips his hat to a lady and always walks on the outside.
-- Medical advice of a century ago. Avoid all injuries to the ears as result from slapping, pulling and very loud and sudden noises.
-- Best buy of the week. Boys' Winter Weight School Suits, 2 pairs of pants, $2.89 at The Globe.

Priest uses big rig to make special deliveries
