Rock hounds meet

Traverse City — The Grand Traverse Rock & Mineral Club will meet at 7 p.m. today, Sept. 18, at the History Center of Traverse City, 322 Sixth St. Members are invited to bring their best copper specimens for a "show and tell." Visitors also are invited.

Book discussion

Traverse City — Peninsula Community Library's Pageturners book group will meet Thursday, Sept. 20.

The group will discuss Isabel Wolff's "A Vintage Affair" at 7 p.m. at the library, 2699 Island View Road. Nancy Bordine also will give a talk on vintage clothing. New members are welcome.

OTP tickets on sale

Traverse City — Tickets are on sale for remaining performances of Old Town Playhouse's production of the one-act musical "The Last Five Years."

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 20-22, and Sept. 27 through 29; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the playhouse, 148 E. Eighth St. Tickets are $25 each.

East Jordan — The East Jordan Chamber of Commerce's first Business After Hours of the season is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Karen Walker Studio, 507 Water St. The studio is celebrating 20 years in business.

Lunch fundraiser

Traverse City — The Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center will hold its second Circle of Friends Luncheon to raise money to help identify, treat, and prevent sexual and physical abuse of children.

Help Boots for Kids

Theater auditions

Benzonia — The Benzie County Players will announce their next production and hold auditions for the play on Thursday, Sept. 20.

Speaker series

Omena — Brian Price, director of the Leelanau Conservancy, will talk about "Leelanau's Changing Landscape" as part of Saving Birds Thru Habitat's Summer Speaker Series.

Traverse City — The community is invited to the Thursday, Sept. 20, meeting of the Grand Traverse Area Genealogy Society.

The group will meet at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3746 Veterans Dr. Amy Barritt, reference librarian at the Traverse Area District Library, will discuss the library's genealogy resources.
