Medicare help
Traverse City — Free "Medicare for Boomers" workshops will be offered for individuals who are soon-to-be-new to Medicare or recent enrollees.
Workshops will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the East Jordan Community Center, 1110 Main St.; and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan, 1609 Park Dr., Traverse City.

Pulled pork picnic
Frankfort — Pulled pork sandwiches are on the menu for a picnic Friday, Aug. 17, at Frankfort United Methodist Church, 537 Crystal Ave.

Parkinson's program
Traverse City — Integrity Home Health Care of Northern Michigan will sponsor a free program on understanding Parkinson's disease and how to organize and prepare for the future.

Seniors workshop
Traverse City — Susan Allred from Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services will facilitate a free workshop on dealing with changes in life Thursday, Aug. 16, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1776 High Lake Road.
The workshop will start at 7 p.m. Allred will discuss how to work through a time of loss, adjust to change and create a new normal. Child care will be available, but registration is required; call the church office, 941-7812.
Fish for a cause
Traverse City — "Fishing for a Cause," a benefit for the Women's Resource Center, starts at noon Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Holiday Inn West Bay, 615 E. Front St.

Summer worship
Leland — Leland Summer Church will welcome the Rev. Dr. Neal Plantinga, president and Charles W. Colson Professor of Theology (emeritus) at Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids.

Mini horse at VBS
Traverse City — Cocoa, a miniature horse from Peace Ranch, will visit Long Lake Friends Church during its "One-of-A-Kind Zoo" Vacation Bible School.
VBS, for ages 3-12, will meet 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday, Aug. 20-24, at the church, 4172 Church Road. Cocoa will visit Monday, Aug. 20. The week closes with movie night at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, and a program and awards at the 9:45 a.m. worship service Sunday, Aug. 25.

Driver safety class
Traverse City — AARP will offer a classroom driver refresher class for adults 50 and older.
The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 23-24, at the Commission on Aging office, 520 W. Front St. The cost is $12 for AARP members; $14 for non-members. The cost is $5 for current and retired educators and school personnel during August only.
