Gov. Rick Snyder honored Buckley resident Anthony Anderson as Volunteer of the Year at the 2012 Governor's Service Awards ceremony.

Anderson, CEO of Cherryland Electric Cooperative, was recognized for his commitment to the community, especially Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan. He is a current Big Brother and Board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan.

He also has raised more than $40,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters through his innovative creation of marathon4kids.com, a platform for individuals to make pledges and donate to his cause — running a marathon is all 50 states. He has completed 24 marathons to date.

Anderson also volunteers his time to the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Robin's Nest, a program for children who have lost a parent.
