GOP Women meet
Elk Rapids — Vinnie Vernuccio, director of labor policy at the Mackinaw Center, will be the guest speaker at the Monday, Aug. 13, luncheon meeting of the Antrim County Republican Women. Reservations are due Friday, Aug. 10.
Vernuccio will discuss ballot initiatives at the noon meeting at the Edward Grace Memorial Harbor. The cost is $15 and the public is welcome. For details or reservations, contact Maryanne Jorgensen, 632-2412 or realtormj@charter.net.
Torch area potluck
Eastport — The Upper Torch Lake Association's potluck dinner is slated for Monday, Aug. 13.
The event opens with a social hour at 6 p.m. at the Torch Lake Township Community Services Building, 2355 N. U.S. 31. All area residents are invited. Attendees should bring a dish to share with a list of ingredients, table service and beverages.
Parks and Rec plan
Suttons Bay — The community is invited to a public input session to share ideas for updating the Village of Suttons Bay's Parks and Recreation Plan.
The session starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Bingham Fire Hall. There will be speakers from local agencies and organizations and informational maps of the village. Art Rapids! concert
Elk Rapids — Art Rapids! and the Elk Rapids Rotary will sponsor a free summer concert as a gift to the community.
The 7:30 p.m. concert on Thursday, Aug. 16, will be held at Veterans' Memorial Park. It will feature flutist Nancy Stagnitta, cellist Crispin Campbell, guitarist Ron Getz, bassist Jack Dryden and drummer Randy Marsh. In case of rain, the concert will move to Elk Rapids High School's Peterman Auditorium.
Ladies of the Lights
Elk Rapids — Sally Frye will talk about Michigan's lighthouses and women who served in the U.S. Lighthouse Service at the Thursday, Aug. 16, meeting of the Elk Rapids Area Historical Society.
Frye is secretary/treasurer of the Michigan Lighthouse Alliance and interim curator of the Elk Rapids Area Historical Society Museum. Run/walk helps pets
Bellaire — A 5K run/walk Saturday, Aug. 18, will help support With A Little Help From My Friends' Pet Crisis Center.
Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Youth League Baseball Field on South M-88. The walk starts at 9 a.m. Pets are welcome and must be current on rabies vaccinations. Pet handlers must be at least 12 years old. The registration fee is $25. For details, call 533-4070.
Alden Train Show
Alden — Model trains will fill the Alden Depot Museum, 10670 Coy St., during the Model Train Show and Swap Meet.
The trains will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 11-12; and 1-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Aug. 18-19, Aug. 25-26, and Sept. 1-2. The show's final day is 1-4 p.m. Labor Day, Sept. 3. The museum's caboose and engine also will be open to visitors.
