Interlochen — Senior citizens are invited to celebrate the new year, January birthdays and anniversaries at the Monday, Jan. 14, Senior Luncheon at Redeemer Lutheran Church, U.S. 31 and Rogers Road.
Armchair exercises start at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and games. The meal is $3; activities are free. Attendees may bring a sack lunch.

Free family day
East Jordan — For the fourth consecutive year, Raven Hill Discovery Center has received funding for its FREE (Families Reaching for Educational Excellence) Second Saturdays.
The center will continue to offer free admission for families from noon to 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, starting Jan. 12. Family groups will be able to strengthen creative and critical thinking skills through hands-on exhibits and displays, plus enjoy the animals and the outdoor exhibits.

Traverse City — Magic Slim & the Teardrops will bring their style of Mississippi-to-Chicago blues to the stage at the Dennos Museum Center.

Traverse City — The Northwest MI Jazz Experience (NMJE) will host a concert and jam session on Sunday, Jan. 13.
The concert from 3 to 5:30 p.m. will be held at Harbor West Yacht Club, M-22 and Cherry Bend Road. It will feature Steve Talaga on piano, drummer Tim Froncek and Jack Dryden on bass. Sitting in on the jam session will be vocalist Janice Keegan, saxophonist Bill Sears and pianist Jeff Haas among other area musicians.

Traverse City — Registration is under way for adult and youth flute classes and an adult flute choir.
Flute classes meet at the flute studio at Northwestern Michigan College. Adult flute choir starts at noon Friday, Jan. 18, in room 102 of the fine arts building at NMC. Private lessons also are available.

Art quilt class
Benzonia — Textile artist Ann Loveless will offer a "confetti landscape art quilt class" at Grow Benzie, 5885 M-115.
The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14. The quilt will be free-motion machine stitched and beginners are welcome. Backing fabric, Steam-a-Seam fusible web, a photo to work from, instructions and fabric scraps to share will be provided.
