Traverse City — A series on world peace continues Sunday, Feb. 17, at Unity of Traverse City.
Joe Kelly, pastor of Friends of the Light Church in Traverse City, will be the guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. service at Unity of Traverse City, 3600 Five Mile Road. Everyone is welcome.
The series continues on Sundays through March 10. The speaker on Feb. 24 is Linda Wood, a practicing Catholic and part of the Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians. For details, call 938-9587.
Adoption program
Traverse City — Bethany Christian Services will present free state adoption and foster care informational meetings from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Bethany’s Traverse City location, 1055 Carriage Hill Dr. Adoption specialists will present options to prospective families wishing to explore an adoptive decision. Parkinson’s group
Traverse City — Kevin Gay from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department will discuss identity fraud and scams at the next meeting of the Grand Traverse Area Parkinson’s Support Group.
The group will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front St. The public is invited. For details, call 947-1946.
Resource Fair
Traverse City — Families with young children are invited to the Saturday, Feb. 23, GT Area Preschool and Child Resource Fair.
The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran School on South Maple Street. Area preschools, child care centers and local businesses that cater to children will be on hand with information. There also will be children’s activities and a comfort station on site. Healthy snacks and lunch will be available to purchase.

WRC training
Traverse City — The Women’s Resource Center will hold winter volunteer training Thursday, March 7, through Saturday, March 16.
The training includes classroom instruction evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 7, 12 and 14; and all day Saturdays, March 9 and 16. Only volunteers interested in direct client contact must complete the entire training; otherwise just a portion of the session is required.

Home heating help
TRAVERSE CITY — Help is available for homeowners struggling to pay their heating bills this winter at www.heatingmyhome.org.
The web site provides access to all of the federal, state and local home heating assistance programs that can help at-risk home dwellers pay their heating bills. Agencies that provide home heating assistance, including the Michigan Department of Human Services (MDHS) and the Salvation Army, are all listed by county.
The website also provides simple, inexpensive weatherization tips that can save homeowners money on their heating bills. It is managed and updated by the Michigan Propane Gas Association on a monthly basis.
Art contest
antrim County — Students in grades K-12, living in Antrim County, are invited to submit artwork for the 2013 Antrim County Fair book cover contest. The winner will receive a $50 cash prize from the Antrim County Fair Board.
The deadline for entry is March 1.
Designs should represent the fair with subjects including animals, fruits and vegetables or crafts and hobbies. Entries will not be returned. The winning entry will be posted on www.antrimcountyfair.com.

Kinship conference
Grayling — Grandparents, over the age of 55, who are raising relative children under age 18 are invited to attend a free Kinship Conference from 8:30 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Grayling Elementary School, 306 Plum St.
The conference will focus on the unique needs of and offer resources to people who find themselves raising children in their twilight years.
The schedule starts with a free breakfast closes with door prizes.

Winter concert
TRAVERSE CITY — The Northwestern Michigan College Choral Music department presents a concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 17 in Lars Hockstad Auditorium.
Two adult ensembles, the NMC Chamber Singers and NMC Grand Traverse Chorale, will share the stage with four choirs from the award-winning NMC Children’s Choir program: Dolce, Bel Canto, Lyric, Ragazzo and Cantus. The concert includes the world premiere of a new choral composition.
The choirs will perform under the direction of Jeffrey Cobb, Stephanie Schall-Brazee, David and Mary Parrish and Todd Vipond. General Admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for 62 and older and children 12 and younger.

Petoskey — North Central Michigan College will hold an information session on the process for admission to its nursing and allied health career programs.
The meeting will start at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in room 122 of NCMC’s main administration/classroom building, 1515 Howard St. Anyone planning to apply for either program is encouraged to attend.
Lenten service
Traverse City — Bethlehem Lutheran Church’s Lenten worship services on Wednesdays will focus on the theme “At the Foot of the Cross.”
A soup and salad dinner at 6 p.m. will be followed by the worship service at 7:30 p.m. each Wednesday through March 20 at the church, 1050 Peninsula Dr. The first Wednesday, Feb. 20, participants will make a wall hanging for shut-ins based on the theme “The Cross.” On succeeding Wednesdays, Feb. 27-March 20, children will have a separate lesson and adults will create a patchwork pillow block each week.
Fish dinners
acme — The Knights of Columbus Council # 9979 will hold Lenten fish dinners from 5 to 7 p.m. every Friday during Lent, excluding Good Friday, beginning this week at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3801 Shore Road.
Dinners include baked and deep fried Alaskan pollock, coleslaw, fries, rolls, coffee and soft drinks.
The meals are all you can eat with the cost being a donation at the door. A Stations of The Cross service will be held in the Sanctuary at 7 p.m. following each Friday’s dinner.
