Milarch gives talk

Beulah — The Benzie Conservation District will sponsor a program by David Milarch, subject of the book "The Man Who Planted Trees," and Jimmie Mitchell from the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.

A Night of Cabaret

Traverse City — Old Town Playhouse will present a concert by award-winning New York cabaret artists Natalie Douglas and Brian Nash.

Explore Bellaire

Unique Market

Traverse City — Northern Michigan Unique Market will be open Saturdays, July 14 and 28.

Gallery Fifty show

Traverse City — An exhibit by Melonie Steffes will open with a reception Saturday, July 14, at Gallery Fifty, 820 Cottageview Dr.

Masons host dinner

Traverse City — The community is invited to a chicken dinner Sunday, July 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Traverse City Masonic Temple, 13360 West Bay Shore Dr. The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children or $25 per family.

'Pooch-A-Palooza'

Traverse City — Pine Cone Farm invites well-behaved pets to a celebration for canine companions.

"Pooch-A-Palooza" will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the farm, 7246 E. Harry's Road, with a pet parade at 3 p.m. For details, call 944-6520. The rain date is Sunday, July 22.

Lecture on rocks

Eastport — The Wilkinson Homestead Historical Society will sponsor Professor James McClurg's "Antique Rock Road Show."

The community is invited to bring in rocks from the area for McClurg to identify and discuss starting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 16, at the Torch Lake Township Hall, 5081 U.S. 31 North. The lecture is free, but donations are welcome.

Library lectures

Northport — Celebrity Chef Mario Batali will open Leelanau Township Library's Summer Lecture Series.

Batali will speak on Tuesday, July 17. Other speakers include award-winning poet Theresa Scollon July 24; and bard/storyteller Jim Ribby July 31.

Antique Market

Glen Arbor — Dealers from throughout the Midwest will participate in the second annual Cottage Antique Market.

Market hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Cottage Book Shop, 5989 Lake St. New this year is a consignment booth, with items accepted Tuesday, July 17, at the book store. Antique appraiser Don Butkovich also will give oral appraisals for $10 per item. There is no limit on items.

Admission is by donation. Proceeds benefit the Leelanau Press, a nonprofit publisher of Leelanau County history, authors and artists. For details, call 334-4395 or 334-4223.

Andre's Place class

Traverse City — Dorothy Eisenstein, director of the dance program in the Humanities Department at Northwestern Michigan College, will lead a free dance workshop for teens ages 13-17 who are living with challenges and their siblings in the same age group.

"It's About Time" will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Andre's Place, 5222 N. Royal Dr.

Art classes for kids

Glen Arbor — Artists ages 10 to 13 can learn and expand their drawing and painting skills at Art Studio sessions sponsored by the Glen Arbor Art Association.

Classes run six weeks each and meet 3-5 p.m. at the GAAA. The drawing studio is Wednesdays; the painting studio Thursdays.
